Talent competitions and music agents aren’t the only way undiscovered singers can make it big.

In fact, many famous artists including Rod Stewart, Tracy Chapman, and B.B. King started out as street performers before they got their breaks. That’s also how Alfie Sheard rose to internet fame after a video of him singing on the streets went viral.

The British teen from Rotherham, England, has been playing guitar since he was 11 years old, but it wasn’t until years later that he would gain his large following. Back then, Alfie could be found performing for strangers in various public areas. That’s where he found the start of his success.

In 2017, the then 15-year-old was filmed busking in Doncaster. It seems very fitting now that the song he chose to cover that day was Chapman’s “Fast Car.”
